What's the difference between FCL and LCL?

FCL (Full Container Load) means you book an entire container — 20ft, 40ft, or 40ft HC. Ideal for shipments over 15 CBM. LCL (Less than Container Load) means your cargo is consolidated with other shippers' goods in a shared container. More cost-effective for smaller shipments under 15 CBM.

How fast is air freight vs sea freight?

Air freight typically takes 1–5 days depending on origin and destination. Sea freight ranges from 12–45 days depending on the route. Air costs approximately 4–6x more than sea per kg, so it's best for urgent, high-value, or perishable goods. Rail offers a middle ground at 18–22 days from China at 40–60% less than air.

Do you handle customs clearance?

Yes. We have a fully licensed in-house customs brokerage team that handles all UK import and export declarations via CDS (Customs Declaration Service). We also manage tariff classification, duty calculations, duty deferment, and preferential origin claims under UK FTAs. Average declaration processing time is under 2 hours.

Can you ship dangerous goods?

Yes. We're certified for IATA DGR (air) and IMDG Code (sea) dangerous goods handling. This covers chemicals, lithium batteries, flammable liquids, compressed gases, corrosives, and more. All DG shipments require a completed Shipper's Declaration and proper UN packaging. Our specialist team handles the documentation and compliance.

What cargo insurance do you offer?

We offer marine cargo insurance through Lloyd's underwriters covering all risks including damage, loss, theft, and delay. Cover can be arranged per-shipment or on an annual open policy basis. Standard cover is up to 110% of CIF value. War risk, strikes, and political risk cover are available as add-ons for high-risk corridors.

How do I track my shipment?

Every shipment gets a unique tracking ID viewable on your Elinom dashboard. Air freight is tracked via IATA AWB milestones. Sea freight uses AIS vessel tracking with port-to-port milestones. Road freight has live GPS via FleetTrack integration. You receive automated email and SMS alerts at every key milestone — booking confirmation, departure, transhipment, arrival, customs clearance, and POD.
